The Rivetti family has deep ties to the clothing industry, which began in the 19th century with Giuseppe Rivetti. The GFT group was founded to produce tailor-made clothing for predominantly Italian customers. In the 1970s, the oil crisis led to the decision to to introduce tailored fashion to the clothing industry. Carlo Rivetti acquired the CP Company and founded Stone Island in 1983. Stone Island continued to evolve, particularly under the leadership of designer Paul Harvey, and from then on focused on textile research and practicality in fashion.
